Extra-Curricular

精东影业 students are fortunate to have a wide range of extra-curricular activities on offer.

Students from Years K-12 can choose from chess, music, debating, sports and more. 聽The extra-curricular program reflects the broad range of students’ interests and is constantly evolving.

Some examples of activities on offer:

CHESS

Chess has become a passion at 精东影业. 聽We field 5 teams in the NSW Junior Chess League Primary Schools鈥 Competition every year. Our teams receive professional coaching and perform admirably. 聽

In 2016 our A team came first in NSW in this competition and represented NSW in the National Championships in Perth. Our top players have entered other inter-primary competitions and placed third in the 2016 competition at Knox Grammar.聽In addition, a keen group of Years K-2 students are exposed to the fundamentals of chess during their lunchtime on a weekly basis, with the Primary School Chess captains acting as mentors to these students.

In the High School, we currently field a junior team, which participates in the NSW Secondary Schools鈥 Competition. This club is expanding each year.

GYMNASTICS

Since its inception in 2003, 精东影业’s gymnastics program has been a great success.聽

Boys and girls from Years K-6 train weekly at the Bunnerong High Performance Centre before school. 聽Students of all abilities are exposed to a variety of traditional apparatus, as well as opportunities for trampolining, rope climbing and strength training. Extra training sessions are provided in the lead-up to inter-school competitions.

精东影业’s results at the annual prestigious IPSHAA (Independent Primary School Heads’ Association of Australia) competition have been consistently outstanding.

Bunnerong has an excellent team of experienced coaches working together to improve the students’ gymnastic ability and to foster a love for the sport in a fun environment. Coaches keep up to date with current techniques by attending workshops run by Gymnastics Australia, Gymnastics NSW and the Department of Sport and Recreation. The coaches, many of whom are former elite gymnasts, also attend judging courses.

ROBOTICS

Students in Years 3-6 learn to design, program and control fully-functional Lego robotic models. 聽Robotics Club guides students through the exciting world of robots. Students define what a robot is (and what it isn鈥檛!), study the myths that surround robots, examine how robots are used in movies and stories, and consider how robots assist humans. Experts in the field of robotics help students learn more about artificial intelligence and what the future holds for humans and machines.Students focus on the origins, applications and latest trends in robotics and learn how robots are built and controlled. They then move to exciting group challenges where, using聽a LEGO庐 Mindstorms robotics kit, they try to make a robot successfully complete a task.聽
